Dr. Weiler is…

Dr. Amy Weiler is the founder and medical director of Well Integrative Family Medicine. Dr. Weiler is a Functional Medicine physician, board-certified in family medicine, and has had extensive training in integrative medicine. She is one of only three physicians in Chicago to have achieved the Certified Functional Medicine Practitioner credential from The Institute for Functional Medicine (IFM). She is a gifted diagnostician, and has extensive experience in the role food sensitivities play in chronic illness. She has also worked extensively as a licensed clinical social worker in the past and draws on this experience in her practice.

She graduated with a Masters Degree from the University of Chicago, and worked as a licensed clinical social worker and therapist for several years in ICU and transplant programs in Chicago area hospitals before attending medical school at the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine. She trained at the rural medicine program at the University of Wisconsin in Madison and Baraboo before completing her residency in family medicine at MacNeal Hospital, one of the oldest and most highly respected family medicine residency programs in the Midwest.

Dr. Weiler began her study of Functional Medicine with the IFM in 2010. She completed their rigorous course of study over five years and passed the IFM certification exam in Spring 2015. Her mission and passion is to practice Functional Medicine which helps her patients define the actual cause of their disease and address the roots of their illness rather than simply prescribing for the symptoms.

As an osteopathic physician, Dr. Weiler considers the whole person when assessing a patient’s needs and developing a plan of care. As a former social worker and therapist, she knows that making the time to listen to her patients is the most important first step in the healing process. Illness has behavioral and emotional components in addition to physical concerns and true lasting change comes from addressing both.

When Dr. Weiler is not seeing patients, she studies environmental medicine, homeopathy, preventative techniques and the latest research on the underlying causes of symptoms. She has also trained in Reiki healing and reconnective therapies. She considers the interactions between genetics, environment and lifestyle that can negatively affect patient health. Together with her patients, she seeks out innovative answers to help them be the healthiest they can be. She is happily married and is the mother of a lovely little girl.
